About

Big Lake State Park Campground is situated on 407 acres in northwest Missouri, adjacent to Big Lake, the largest remaining oxbow lake in the state. The campground underwent renovations and now offers 28 modern campsites featuring sewer, water, and 50-amp electrical service, along with basic and electric-only sites. All sites are fully reservable up to 12 months in advance. The shallow oxbow lake supports extensive wetlands that serve as a critical refuge for wetland bird species and migratory waterfowl, including yellow-headed blackbirds, blue herons, soras, and rails. Anglers can fish for bluegill, catfish, carp, and bass, while boaters can launch from the park to explore the lake by motorboat, canoe, or kayak. The park also features camper cabins, a day-use area with picnic facilities, playgrounds, and easy access from Interstate 29 between Kansas City and Omaha. Campsites include level concrete pads with picnic tables, fire rings, and designated parking for two vehicles. During the off-season from November 1 through April 14, potable water is available at a frost-free spigot located at the dump station. The campground operates year-round with a 15-day limit within any 30-consecutive-day period.
