About
Indian Cave State Park encompasses nearly 3,400 acres along the Missouri River in southeast Nebraska, 10 miles south of Brownville. The park is known for its scenic beauty, featuring mature hardwood forests, dramatic bluffs, and panoramic river views. The namesake Indian Cave contains prehistoric petroglyphs believed to be several thousand years old, and visitors can explore a partially reconstructed 1853 village from the Nemaha Half-Breed Reservation. The campground offers diverse camping options including Electric Plus sites with full hookups, Electric sites, Basic sites, and dedicated Equestrian camping areas with corrals and hitching posts. Modern amenities include flush restrooms, hot showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station. Each campsite typically features a picnic table and fire pit or grill. The park's two main campgrounds, Ash Grove and Hackberry Hollow, provide a mix of open and wooded sites suitable for both tents and RVs. Outdoor recreation opportunities abound with 22 miles of hiking and biking trails, 16 miles of equestrian trails, and access to Missouri River fishing and boating. The park also features a disc golf course and is popular for birdwatching. Winter visitors enjoy cross-country skiing and sledding. The park operates year-round and is currently available on a first-come, first-served basis, making it an accessible destination for spontaneous getaways.
Directions
Located 10 miles south of Brownville, Nebraska, and 5 miles east on S64E in Nemaha County. The park is accessible from Highway 67 in southeast Nebraska near the Missouri River.
