About

Bimijiwan, meaning "Flowing Water" in Ojibwe, has been a recreation destination since 1934. Located on the northeast shore of Cass Lake in Chippewa National Forest, the campground sits at the point where the Mississippi River flows out of Cass Lake, making it an ideal launching point for paddlers exploring the headwaters region. The campground offers 13 sites including 11 standard single-family sites and 2 walk-to tent sites, all set among manicured lawns shaded by oak, spruce, and pine. Every site features a picnic table and fire ring with scenic lake views. Boat ramps provide access to both Cass Lake and the Mississippi River, and a fishing platform accommodates anglers. Bear activity is common in the area. From April 1 through November 30, all food, coolers, and scented items must be stored in locked vehicles, hard-sided campers, or bear-resistant containers when unattended. Firewood from outside the forest is prohibited; visitors should bring firewood or collect dead and down wood on site.

From Cass Lake, MN: Drive 6 miles east on U.S. Highway 2, then turn north on County Road 10 and continue 5 miles to the campground.
