Sky Meadow Group Campground sits within California's oldest state park, Big Basin Redwoods, surrounded by ancient coast redwoods and dense forest. The campground offers two large group sites, each capable of hosting up to 40 people, which can be reserved individually or together for larger gatherings. The flat, spacious sites are nestled directly in the redwood forest, providing an immersive wilderness experience. The facility serves as a launching point for exploring Big Basin's trail network, with the Sempervirens River and falls nearby. Unlike the main campground areas at Big Basin, Sky Meadow has more rustic amenities with pit toilets and no shower facilities, though potable water is available. Campers seeking showers can use facilities at other campgrounds within the park. The campground and all Big Basin camping facilities were destroyed in the August 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Fire, which burned through 97% of the park. The Reimagining Big Basin project is planning to rebuild Sky Meadow with a mix of cabins, car-camping, group sites, walk-in sites, a campfire center, and shuttle access. Most of the ancient redwood trees survived the fire and new growth is regenerating throughout the park.

Directions

From Highway 9 in Boulder Creek, turn north onto Highway 236 and continue 9 miles to the Big Basin park entrance. The park is approximately 25 miles northwest of Santa Cruz.
