The Huckleberry Tent Cabins at Big Basin Redwoods State Park provided a unique overnight experience among some of the tallest and oldest coast redwoods in California. Located within California's first state park, established in 1902, campers could sleep beneath towering ancient trees that have stood for over a thousand years. The tent cabins offered a middle ground between traditional tent camping and cabin rentals, featuring canvas-sided structures with beds. Guests brought their own bedding and sleeping bags, as linens were not provided. The campground included shared restroom facilities with a combination building adjacent to the camping area and outdoor utility sinks. The CZU Lightning Complex Fire in August 2020 devastated 97% of Big Basin Redwoods State Park, destroying all campground infrastructure including the Huckleberry Tent Cabins. California State Parks has developed a rebuilding plan that includes reconstructing campgrounds on the edges of the old growth forest at Huckleberry and other areas. The rebuilt facilities will include car camping, cabins, small group sites, large group campsites, walk-in sites, and trail camps. Construction will proceed in phases over several years, though no specific reopening date has been announced.

From Santa Cruz, take Highway 9 north through Boulder Creek. Turn left onto Highway 236 and continue approximately 9 miles to the park entrance. The park is located at 21600 Big Basin Way, Boulder Creek, CA 95006. Note that day-use access currently requires advance parking reservations due to limited capacity during the reconstruction period.
