Big Basin Redwoods Sp Blooms Creek Campground
Permanently closed. Blooms Creek Campground was destroyed by the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Fire and will not reopen. The site is being restored to old growth redwood habitat. Future camping at Big Basin will be at new locations including Huckleberry, Sky Meadow, and Little Basin; no reconstruction timeline has been set.
About
Blooms Creek Campground consisted of Upper and Lower sections situated on either side of Blooms Creek, offering 53 campsites among towering coast redwoods in California's oldest state park. The campground featured flush toilets, hot showers, potable water, and each site included a picnic table, fire ring, and food storage locker. Sites ranged from open to heavily shaded, with some located directly adjacent to the creek. The campground was completely destroyed by the August 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Fire, which devastated 97% of Big Basin Redwoods State Park, including all campground infrastructure and approximately 100 structures. As part of the subsequent Reimagining Big Basin planning process, California State Parks determined that Blooms Creek, along with the Sempervirens and Wastahi campgrounds, will not be rebuilt. These sites are being permanently removed and restored to old growth redwood habitat. Future camping at Big Basin will be relocated to the edges of the old growth forest at Huckleberry, Lower Sky Meadow, Upper Sky Meadow, Sequoia Group Camp, and Little Basin. Currently, interim walk-in camping is only available at Rancho del Oso on the park's coastal side. The main Big Basin area is open for limited day-use only, with no set timeline for full facility reconstruction.
