About

Beacon Rock State Park Campground sits within a 4,458-acre park in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, offering diverse camping experiences along the Columbia River. The historic Upper Campground, constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935, provides 26 forested standard sites better suited for tents than large RVs due to the narrow, winding access road and limited long-vehicle sites. The Woodard Creek Campground features 5 full hookup sites and 2 standard sites accommodating RVs and combinations up to 40 feet in length. For equestrian campers, 2 primitive sites are available with direct trail access. The park encompasses over 26 miles of trails open to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, ranging from the accessible 1.2-mile Doetsch Walking Path to challenging climbs up Hamilton Mountain with its waterfalls and panoramic views. The iconic Beacon Rock Trail ascends directly up the 848-foot monolith via 52 switchbacks, offering extraordinary Columbia River Gorge vistas. Rock climbers travel from across the Northwest to tackle traditional climbing routes on Beacon Rock, though climbing restrictions apply to protect nesting falcons and rare species. With 9,500 feet of Columbia River shoreline, the park provides boating access, a dock for moorage, and fishing opportunities for sturgeon, salmon, steelhead, bass, and walleye above Bonneville Dam. The campground includes restrooms with showers, trash service, and drinking water during the operating season. Pets are welcome on leash, and fires are allowed in designated fire pits and grills.

Directions

From Portland, Oregon, take I-205 north into Washington. Merge onto State Route 14 eastbound and continue for approximately 35 miles. The park entrance is on the left, just past Beacon Rock.
