About

Avery Recreation Area is a day-use facility managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, located just below Blakely Mountain Dam along the western shore of the Ouachita River and Lake Hamilton. This unstaffed site provides excellent shoreline fishing access and an ADA-accessible fishing pier. The area features a boat ramp for water access, a reservable group pavilion, restrooms, and multiple hiking opportunities. A small paved ADA trail with scenic benches offers accessible recreation, while the Wood Duck Slough Trail provides wildlife viewing. Avery also serves as one of the primary trailheads for the Lake Ouachita Vista Trail (LOViT), a 40-mile system along the southern shore of Lake Ouachita. Note: This is a day-use area only. There are no overnight campsites available. For overnight camping at Lake Ouachita, visitors should consider nearby Corps of Engineers campgrounds such as Stephens Park or Crystal Springs.
