Snow Play Closure

About
At an elevation of almost 9,000 feet, Aspen Group Area offers cool mountain breezes and an escape from the desert heat below. The campground is surrounded by mixed pine, fir, and white-trunked aspen trees in the rolling Sacramento Mountains near Alamo Peak and Stark Peak. This reservation-only group site can accommodate anywhere from 4 to 70 people and includes a covered pavilion, vault toilets, campfire pits, grills, and picnic tables. Water is available on-site during the operating season. The campground provides excellent access to hiking and biking trails. The Osha Trail, a popular 2.5-mile loop, offers outstanding overlooks, while the Rim Trail, a breathtaking 32-mile path for mountain biking, hiking, and horseback riding, can be reached a quarter mile from the campground. Wildlife in the area includes elk, deer, black bears, and occasionally roadrunners. The Sacramento Mountains overlook Dog Canyon and the Tularosa Basin, providing unspoiled vistas across the desert valley below.

From Cloudcroft, turn south onto NM 130. Continue for 1 mile and turn left (east) onto Forest Road 24B (just across from the Deerhead Campground entrance). The entrance will be on your left.
