About

Slide Group Area sits on the rim of the Sacramento Mountains at 9,000 feet elevation, offering sweeping views of the Tularosa Basin below. The campground is surrounded by mixed evergreen and aspen forest with a wildflower-dusted mountain meadow, making it an ideal setting for group gatherings. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound with deer, elk, and many species of birds frequenting the area. The site features a pavilion with picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, potable water, and garbage depositories. An open meadow provides space for sports and group activities. The campground provides direct access to the Rim Trail (T105), which offers hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding on the northern portion, with the southern section open to motorcycles. Slide Group Area accommodates groups of up to 90 people with parking for approximately 12 trailers or 50 automobiles. RVs are limited to 35 feet. Reservations are required through Recreation.gov, and campers must call ahead to obtain the lock combination for the gate.
