Apgar Campground
Open for the season through September 25, 2026. No potable water is available; campers must bring their own water supply.
About
Apgar Campground occupies a peaceful river terrace along the Lochsa River in Idaho's Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. Accessed via U.S. Highway 12, the campground sits at 1,576 feet elevation beneath a canopy of giant western red cedars and firs. The rustic setting offers 24 campsites with aggregate-surfaced roads suitable for RVs up to 24 feet. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are provided, but no potable water is available so campers must bring their own supply. The campground serves as an excellent base for fishing the Lochsa River and exploring the scenic Highway 12 corridor, part of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. The Lochsa River corridor is renowned for its whitewater opportunities and roadside scenery. Apgar provides a quieter alternative to some of the larger developed campgrounds along the route while still offering basic amenities for tent camping and small RV use.
Directions
From Lowell, Idaho, drive north on Highway 12 for approximately 8 miles to the campground.
