About

Peters Creek Campground is a free, primitive campground located 42 miles south of Hungry Horse on the gravel East Side Reservoir Road #38. Situated on the shores of Hungry Horse Reservoir at 3,600 feet elevation, the 6-unit campground sits in a second-growth forest with campsites less than 100 feet from the water. This low-use facility typically has available campsites and serves as a popular base for huckleberry picking and fishing during summer months, as well as late-season hunting in October and November. The campground can accommodate tents and trailers up to 30 feet in length. Each campsite includes a table and metal fire ring. An accessible vault toilet is provided, but there is no drinking water; water from the reservoir must be treated before consumption. Stock animals are not allowed in the campground, and there is no garbage service, so visitors must pack out all trash. This is a remote location with no cell phone service. The nearest public phone is 13 miles south at Spotted Bear Ranger Station, while gas, food, and other services are 42 miles north in Hungry Horse. Bear country food storage orders are in effect, requiring all food, garbage, and attractants to be stored properly. The campground has a 14-day stay limit.

Directions

From Hungry Horse, drive east on Highway 2 for 0.5 miles to East Side Reservoir Road #38. Turn right (south) onto Road #38 and continue through Martin City. After 2 miles, the pavement ends and becomes gravel. Continue 42 miles south to Peters Creek Campground on the right (west) side of the road.
