About

Angel Lake Campground is located next to Angel Lake, a blue alpine jewel nestled high in the East Humboldt Mountain Range at 8,400 feet elevation, just 12 miles from Wells, Nevada. The campground sits at the foot of rugged glacial cirques that rise to around 10,000 feet, creating a dramatic mountain setting. Dwarf aspens cover the campground, providing privacy between sites but little shade. The lake offers excellent canoeing and fishing for rainbow, brook, and tiger trout. The Smith Lake Trail begins at the campground entrance, providing access to the northern portion of the East Humboldt Wilderness. Another trailhead southeast of the campground leads south to Winchell Lake. Wildlife is abundant, with bighorn sheep, mountain goats, deer, and birds of prey frequently spotted around the lake. Angel Lake is the only alpine lake in the area accessible by paved road. The campground sees heavy use during the summer season and is popular with anglers, hikers, and wildlife enthusiasts seeking a high-mountain experience in northeastern Nevada.
