About

Tomera Cove serves as a designated group camping area within South Fork State Recreation Area, situated along the shores of the 1,650-acre South Fork Reservoir in northeastern Nevada. The site features 2 picnic tables and 1 fire ring, designed specifically for group gatherings. The area takes its name from the historic Tomera Ranch, which was settled in 1867 and sold to the State of Nevada in 1983 before the dam was completed in 1988. The reservoir and surrounding high-desert landscape offer excellent opportunities for fishing trophy-sized trout, bass, and catfish, as well as boating, swimming, and wildlife viewing. Visitors commonly spot mule deer, badgers, beavers, kit foxes, and various waterfowl including ducks and geese. The Ruby Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop to the flourishing meadows and rolling hills that characterize this recreation area. Tomera Cove is part of a larger park system that includes a 25-site developed campground with flush restrooms and showers, as well as open camping areas along the southwest shore. The park is located approximately 20 miles south of Elko off State Route 228 and is open year-round with day use and camping opportunities available in all seasons.
