About

American House OHV Camp sits in Plumas National Forest near the historic gold mining settlement of La Porte in Yuba County, California. The area is characterized by mixed conifer forest typical of the western Sierra Nevada foothills at elevations around 4,000 feet. The campground reportedly caters to off-highway vehicle enthusiasts seeking access to OHV trails in the Plumas and surrounding national forests. As with many primitive OHV staging areas in California national forests, facilities are expected to be minimal. The La Porte area has a network of forest roads and trails popular with OHV riders. Important: This campground does not appear in official USFS or Recreation.gov listings as of May 2026. Campers should contact the Feather River Ranger District at the Plumas National Forest to confirm current status, access conditions, and any applicable restrictions before visiting.

Directions

From Hwy 101, take the Santa Margarita exit, turning off at El Camino Real and across the railroad tracks at the east end of town on Estrada Avenue/Hwy 58. After 1.4 miles, Hwy 58 turns left, but continue straight on Pozo Road. Follow Pozo Road for almost 20 miles, through the town of Pozo, keeping right at the La Panza Road junction, until you reach the Avenales Ranch Road. Follow Avenales Ranch Road about 5 miles, through a gate (keep closed!) to the sign for American Canyon where you turn left and continue another 2 miles.
