Oscar Scherer State Park Campground

Open

Open year-round. A burn ban has been in effect since October 13, 2025 due to drought conditions; no campfires or open flames are permitted until further notice. Charcoal grills and propane stoves may still be used for cooking. Water service, boat launch, and bird walk are temporarily closed due to drought.

About

Oscar Scherer State Park Campground sits within a 1,400-acre preserve protecting one of the last remaining scrubby flatwoods habitats in the region. The park is home to a thriving population of Florida scrub-jays, a threatened species found only in Florida. South Creek flows through the park, offering paddling opportunities alongside 15 miles of multi-use trails for hiking and biking. The campground consists of 104 sites spread across loops A, C, D, E, and F, all with water and electric hookups (30 or 50-amp service). Six pull-through sites can accommodate larger rigs up to 36 feet. Five bathhouses provide flush toilets, hot showers, and coin-operated laundry facilities. A dump station is located near the campground exit. Seven sites are ADA accessible. Pets are welcome at most sites on a six-foot leash, though sites 70-90 are designated pet-free zones. The park is situated just off U.S. 41, offering easy access to Sarasota and Venice while maintaining a secluded natural atmosphere. A freshwater lake provides swimming during warmer months.

Directions
