About
Red Ives Cabin is a historic Forest Service structure that served as the ranger station for the Red Ives Ranger District of the St. Joe National Forest from the 1930s until 1984. Now available as a cabin rental, it offers a unique opportunity to stay in a piece of forest history along the St. Joe Wild and Scenic River in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The cabin features two bedrooms with one queen bed, two sets of bunk beds, and a queen futon. Amenities include a full kitchen with propane stove/oven and refrigerator, a bathroom with flush toilet and shower/tub combination, hot water, and a gas log fireplace for heat. Propane and battery lanterns provide lighting. The covered front porch overlooks the surrounding forest. Recreational opportunities include world-class fishing, kayaking and floating on the St. Joe River, hiking, and OHV use. Wildlife viewing is excellent in this remote mountainous terrain. Access is via a narrow one-lane road with turnouts; the nearest town for supplies is Avery.
