About
Elks Group Campground occupies a transition zone where ponderosa pines fade into pinyon-juniper woodlands on the Mogollon Rim Ranger District. Originally constructed and donated by the Winslow Elks Lodge, the facility spans 6 fenced acres at 6,496 feet and can accommodate groups ranging from 10 to 300 people with parking for up to 50 vehicles. The campground includes a large pavilion, metal fire ring, picnic tables, grills, horseshoe pit, volleyball net poles, small swing set, and flagpole. Vault toilets and a 500-gallon water buffalo provide basic services. Groups exceeding 50 people must bring additional portable toilets. RVs and trailers up to 45 feet are permitted, though no hookups exist. Nearby recreational opportunities include C.C. Cragin Reservoir and Knoll Lake for fishing and water activities, plus the Arizona National Scenic Trail, General Crook National Recreation Trail, and Cabin Loop Trail System for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The community of Happy Jack offers convenience stores, restaurants, and fuel.
