About
Located approximately 80 miles southeast of Flagstaff, Knoll Lake Campground offers a secluded forest camping experience in the Coconino National Forest. At 7,400 feet elevation, this remote campground sits among stands of ponderosa pine, aspen, and spruce, providing cool highland camping near two major attractions. The campground provides easy access to Knoll Lake, a 75-acre body of water stocked with rainbow, brown, and brook trout. The lake features a boat ramp for small watercraft, though motors are restricted to electric only. The second major draw is the spectacular Mogollon Rim, a 2,000-foot escarpment marking the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau. This area showcases some of the Rim's most magnificent views and provides excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations available. Individual sites accommodate up to 8 people, and double sites can handle up to 16. Access requires traveling on graveled forest roads suitable for sedans during good weather, though winter snow and seasonal road closures make the area inaccessible during colder months.
