About

Rock Crossing Campground is located in the Coconino National Forest at 7,316 feet elevation, surrounded by ponderosa pine and oak forest. The campground features 31 individual family sites and 2 double sites, with each family site accommodating up to 8 people and double sites up to 16 people. The cool summer climate and proximity to water recreation make this a popular destination. The campground provides picnic tables, campfire rings, cooking grills, tent pads, bear food storage lockers, drinking water, vault toilets, trash collection, and campground hosts. Most sites can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 32 feet, with several sites able to handle rigs up to 35 feet. Campground roads and parking spurs are gravel, with no utility hookups or dump station available. Recreational opportunities abound in the area, with nearby C.C. Cragin Reservoir and Knoll Lake offering water-based activities. The Arizona National Scenic Trail, General Crook National Recreation Trail, and the historic Cabin Loop Trail System provide opportunities for hikers, bicyclists, and equestrian users. Wildlife is abundant and includes elk, mule deer, black bear, bald eagles, and osprey. The nearby Mogollon Rim offers sweeping views of the landscape.

Directions

From Flagstaff, drive 55 miles south on FH 3 (Lake Mary Road) to AZ 87 at Clints Well. Turn left onto AZ 87, drive 4.6 miles to FR 751 (Blue Ridge / C.C. Cragin Reservoir turnoff). Turn right on FR 751 and drive 2.5 miles to the campground. From Payson, drive 42.5 miles north on AZ 87 to FR 751, turn right and drive 2.5 miles to the campground.
