Rocky Springs Campground, Milepost 54.8

About
Rocky Springs Campground sits at milepost 54.8 on the Natchez Trace Parkway, roughly an hour north of Natchez and an hour south of Jackson, Mississippi. This free, primitive campground offers 22 sites suitable for tents, RVs up to 55 feet (including tow vehicle), and bicycle tourists. Sites are first-come, first-served with no reservations accepted. The paved campground loop features both pull-through and back-in configurations, with one ADA-accessible site near the restrooms. The campground anchors a rich historic area that once was the thriving town of Rocky Springs, which peaked in the 1860s before yellow fever and the Civil War led to its decline. Visitors can explore self-guiding trails through the old townsite, walk a preserved section of the original Old Natchez Trace, and visit the natural spring that gave the community its name. The 1837 Rocky Springs Methodist Church still stands nearby. Amenities are basic: flush toilets (seasonal) and picnic tables at each site, but no showers, hookups, or dump station. Fire rings are provided and campfires are permitted using only dead and down wood. Campers are limited to 14 days per calendar year at this campground.
