About

Clear Springs Recreation Area is a secluded campground nestled in the rolling hills of Homochitto National Forest in southern Mississippi. The centerpiece is a cool, 12-acre spring-fed lake surrounded by tall stands of pine and mixed hardwood trees, creating a shady forest atmosphere perfect for a variety of outdoor activities. The campground features 22 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tent campers. Electric hookup sites are available for $20 per night, while tent sites are $7 per night. As of September 2025, even-numbered campsites can be reserved in advance through Recreation.gov, while odd-numbered sites remain first-come, first-served. Amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, an RV dump station, a picnic pavilion designed for groups, and an amphitheater. The recreation area also offers picnicking facilities with tables and grills. Recreational opportunities abound at Clear Springs. The lake provides swimming and fishing for species including catfish, largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill. A one-mile hiking trail loops around the lake, and four mountain bike and hiking trails begin within the recreation area. The terrain is notably steep for Mississippi, offering a more challenging experience for hikers and bikers. The nearby Okhissa Lake, a 1,075-acre impoundment located about 15 minutes away, offers additional fishing and water recreation. Note that boat trailers are prohibited at Clear Springs.
