About

Tom's Lake Cabin offers a secluded retreat on a wooded knoll overlooking a 23-acre lake in the heart of Hiawatha National Forest. Built in 1991, this rustic cabin accommodates up to eight guests on four twin bunk beds with mattresses. A wood stove provides heat (firewood supplied), while an outdoor fire pit with benches and a pedestal grill offer gathering spots for cooking and relaxation. A hand pump provides drinking water just outside, and a pit toilet sits behind the cabin. The lake is ideal for fishing largemouth bass and bluegill, swimming at your own risk, and carry-in boat access only. Several trail systems lie within a few miles, including the 26-mile Pine Marten Run trail system for hiking, biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. The Big Island Lake Wilderness and Wild and Scenic Indian River are short drives away for paddling and additional fishing. The cabin operates year-round but the quarter-mile access road is not plowed in winter, requiring visitors to walk, ski, or snowmobile in. No electricity, no modern plumbing, and no trash service means guests must bring camp stoves, lanterns, dishes, bedding, toilet paper, and pack out all refuse. Pets are allowed on leash but cannot be left alone in the cabin. RVs, trailers, and tents are not permitted without prior written approval.

Directions
