About
Rumble Lake Adirondack Shelter sits along the Pine Marten Run Trail, a 26-mile system of non-motorized trails in the Ironjaw Semi-Primitive Area of Hiawatha National Forest. The trail system loops around the wild and scenic Indian River, bogs, rolling hills, and numerous lakes including Swan, Nineteen, Ironjaw, Triangle, Dinner, Spud, Rumble, Sprinkler, Verdant, Rim, and Hub lakes. The area is open to hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Adirondack shelters with fire rings have been constructed at Rumble Lake, Rim Lake, and along the Indian River, all available on a first-come, first-served basis. These shelters provide basic three-sided wooden structures typical of Adirondack-style backcountry camping. Water and toilet facilities are available at the County Road 440 trailhead, while other access points only have toilet facilities. The Pine Marten Run area is approximately 30 miles northwest of Manistique in Schoolcraft County. Access is via County Roads 440 and 437 and Forest Road 2258. This is true backcountry camping requiring self-sufficiency; campers should bring their own water and pack out all trash.
Directions
From Manistique, travel northwest approximately 30 miles. The Pine Marten Run Trail system is accessible from County Roads 440 and 437 and Forest Road 2258. The CR 440 trailhead offers water and toilet facilities.
