About

Rumble Lake Adirondack Shelter sits within the Pine Marten Run Trail system, a 26-mile network of non-motorized trails in the Ironjaw Semi-Primitive Area of Hiawatha National Forest. Located approximately 30 miles northwest of Manistique in Schoolcraft County, this rustic shelter is one of three Adirondack-style shelters in the area, along with those at Rim Lake and along the Indian River. The shelter provides a backcountry camping experience with a fire ring, accessible to hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders traversing the trail system. The Pine Marten Run loops through rolling hills, bogs, and scenic wilderness around the wild and scenic Indian River and numerous lakes including Rumble, Swan, Ironjaw, Triangle, Rim, and Lake Nineteen. While dispersed camping is allowed throughout most of the trail system without a permit, some lakeside campsites require advance reservations through Recreation.gov. The trailheads offer parking suitable for horse trailers, and camping without a permit is allowed at trailheads for up to 16 days.
