Convict Lake Campground occupies a scenic setting along Convict Creek at 7,600 ft elevation, just a short walk from Convict Lake in Inyo National Forest. The campground offers 85 sites spread among aspen and cottonwood trees, with dramatic views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada peaks. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food locker. The eastern Sierra is renowned for exceptional trout fishing, and anglers can pursue rainbow and brown trout in both the creek and the 167-acre lake. The 3.5-mile Lake Trail begins near the campground, providing access to stunning alpine scenery and connecting to trails in the nearby John Muir Wilderness. Facilities include flush toilets, potable water, and a dump station located a quarter-mile away on Convict Lake Road. No hookups are available. Showers can be purchased at the nearby Convict Lake Resort, which also offers a store, restaurant, and boat rentals. This is an active bear area, and proper food storage in the provided bear boxes is mandatory.
Directions
From Highway 395 between Mammoth Lakes and Bishop, take the well-signed turnoff across from Mammoth Yosemite Airport. Travel west 2 miles to the campground.
