About
South Jetty Sand Camping is a primitive camping area within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, specifically designed for off-road vehicle enthusiasts. Located less than two miles south of Florence, Oregon, the camping area sits directly on the sand dunes with access via the Goosepasture Staging Area off South Jetty Road. This is true dispersed camping with no developed infrastructure. Sites are accessible only by 4x4 vehicles capable of navigating soft sand. The Oregon Dunes contain the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North America, with wind-sculpted formations towering up to 500 feet above sea level. From the nearby South Jetty Day-Use Area, visitors can access miles of open beach for hiking and wildlife viewing, separate from the motorized riding areas. Designated OHV routes and open riding areas extend south of South Jetty Road. Campers must be fully self-sufficient. There is no potable water, no toilets (portable facilities required), no fire rings (fire pans required), no picnic tables, and no trash service. Oregon OHV permits are required for riding. An OHV curfew is in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and an alcohol prohibition applies. The 14-day stay limit is enforced per 30 rolling days across the entire forest.
