About

Redfish Cabin is a historic Civilian Conservation Corps-era structure from the 1930s, nestled in the trees above the northern shore of Redfish Lake at 6,570 feet elevation in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. This warm and cozy cabin offers a unique fall and winter getaway with stunning views of the Sawtooth Wilderness, including Mount Heyburn (10,229 feet) and Grand Mogul (9,733 feet). The cabin accommodates up to six people with a log bunk bed and futon (single mattress above, double below) and floor space for sleeping bags. It features electric lights, a gas fireplace, electric wall heaters, and a full kitchen with electric stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, and all necessary cookware and utensils. An outhouse is located 50 feet from the cabin. There is no running water; guests must bring their own or treat water from nearby Fishhook Creek. Recreation opportunities include hiking trails to Bench Lakes, Redfish Creek, Fishhook Creek, and Marshall Lake, all within half a mile. Winter activities include snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on un-groomed trails, plus easy access to the groomed Stanley to Smiley Creek snowmobile route. Redfish Lake, named for the brilliant sockeye salmon that once returned here in massive numbers, is the largest lake in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. The surrounding 217,000-acre Sawtooth Wilderness is home to bald eagles, osprey, elk, deer, gray wolves, mountain goats, and wolverines.
