About
Hungry Gulch Campground is located on a pine-covered hillside at 2,700 feet elevation in Sequoia National Forest, approximately 3 miles from Lake Isabella's western shores. The campground offers 78 individual family campsites on natural surface sites connected by a paved campground road. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Facilities include three concrete block flush toilets, drinking water from hand pumps, and a playground. Unlike typical seasonal campgrounds, Hungry Gulch operates as an overflow facility that opens during very busy holiday weekends when other Lake Isabella area campgrounds reach capacity. The gate may be locked during non-peak periods, so campers should call ahead to confirm access. Lake Isabella offers over 11,000 acres of water recreation including swimming, waterskiing, windsurfing, and fishing for crappie, bluegill, catfish, largemouth bass, and rainbow trout. The Kern River nearby provides additional hiking and fishing opportunities. Maximum vehicle length is 30 feet for RVs and trailers.
Directions
From Bakersfield, take Highway 178 to the town of Lake Isabella. From Lake Isabella, take Highway 155 North approximately four miles to the campground.
