About
Fir Group Campground is located at 6,400 feet elevation in the Hume Lake Ranger District of Sequoia National Forest, within the Giant Sequoia National Monument. The campground sits amid pine forests on the Generals Highway, about 14 miles southeast of Grant Grove. This group-only facility can accommodate up to 100 people and 31 vehicles at a single group site, making it ideal for large gatherings, family reunions, and organized group outings. The campground provides vault toilets, drinking water, fire rings, picnic tables, and bear-proof food storage lockers. Being in active black bear country, proper food storage in the provided lockers is essential. The facility is operated by Rocky Mountain Recreation Company under special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service. Nearby Hume Lake, an 87-acre reservoir built to support historic logging operations in the Kings River Watershed, offers trout fishing, swimming, non-motorized boating, and hiking trails. The surrounding Sequoia National Forest encompasses 1.1 million acres with elevations ranging from 1,000 to 12,000 feet, featuring more than 30 giant sequoia groves, precipitous canyons, and spectacular waterfalls. Several hiking trails pass through the area, and the campground's location provides access to attractions in both Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
Directions
From Fresno, go east on Highway 180 towards Kings Canyon National Park. Take a right on the Generals Highway and travel approximately 10 miles south to the campground entrance on the left.
