* WHAT...Flash flooding and debris flows caused by excessive rainfall are possible over the Elk, Robertson Draw, and East Side Burn Areas on Saturday. * WHERE...Portions of south central Montana, including the following areas, Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains and Red Lodge Foothills and north central Wyoming, including the following area, Northeast Bighorn Mountains. * WHEN...From Saturday morning through Saturday evening. * IMPACTS...Periods of heavy rainfall with embedded thunderstorms are expected over the Elk, Robertson Draw, and East Side Burn Areas Saturday, possibly beginning early in the morning. Residents in and downstream of these burn scars should prepare for potential rapid runoff, flooding and debris flows. Narrow drainages and low-lying areas are especially prone to flood. Be sure to stay up to date with information from local authorities. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Periods of heavy rainfall with embedded thunderstorms are expected across the region. The Elk Burn Area along the eastern slopes of the Bighorns, and the Robertson Draw and East Side Burn Areas south of Red Lodge, could experience flash flooding and debris flows. About
Limber Pine Campground is located 12 miles south of Red Lodge, Montana, just off the scenic Beartooth Highway. The campground rests along the banks of the Main Fork of Rock Creek in a forest of aspen and pine, with the rugged Beartooth Range as a backdrop. Wildlife including grizzly bears, deer, and elk inhabit the surrounding area. The campground offers 13 sites accommodating both tents and trailers up to 45 feet. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. Amenities include vault toilets (two accessible) and potable water from a hand pump. Bear-resistant dumpsters are centrally located for trash disposal. Firewood is available for purchase from the campground host at nearby Parkside Campground. Fishing opportunities abound in Rock Creek and the nearby 5-acre Greenough Lake, which also permits canoeing and kayaking. Hikers can access the Beartooth Wilderness via the Hellroaring and Lake Fork trailheads. The Parkside National Recreation Trail offers mountain biking and hiking. The charming town of Red Lodge provides dining, lodging, and summer events including the Home of Champions Rodeo on Fourth of July weekend.
Directions
From U.S. Highway 212, turn off at Rock Creek Road (Forest Road 2421). Go just over a mile to the campground entrance on the left.
