Sheridan Campground is located approximately five miles south of Red Lodge, Montana, on the banks of the Main Fork of Rock Creek. Situated in a forest of aspen and pine in the shadow of the Beartooth Range, the campground offers 9 sites with a maximum trailer length of 30 feet. The area is known for excellent rainbow trout fishing in Rock Creek and serves as a gateway to the Beartooth Wilderness via nearby Hellroaring and Lake Fork trailheads. Additional trails including Beartrack, Corral Creek, and the Parkside National Recreation Trail are accessible from the campground, offering opportunities for hiking and mountain biking. Hellroaring Road is open to off-road vehicles.
The campground is located along the scenic Beartooth Highway, just seven miles from the charming town of Red Lodge, which offers dining, lodging, galleries, and shops. The highway itself was called "the most beautiful drive in America" by Charles Kuralt and provides access to Yellowstone National Park's northeast entrance, 60 miles away. Greenough Lake, eight miles from the campground, is popular for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Wildlife including grizzly bear, deer, and elk inhabit the surrounding area. The campground features vault toilets and bear-resistant food storage lockers, with a campground host available at nearby Rattin Campground.
Directions
From Red Lodge, drive south on US Highway 212 for approximately 4 miles. Turn left on East Side Road and drive 0.5 miles to the campground on your right. Note: The south bridge is currently out, so enter via East Side Road from the north.
