About
Basin Campground is situated 7 miles west of Red Lodge, Montana, along the paved Forest Road 2071 (West Fork Rock Creek Road) in the Custer Gallatin National Forest. The campground sits on the banks of the West Fork of Rock Creek, providing excellent access to fishing opportunities. The surrounding landscape was transformed by the 2008 Cascade Fire, creating open meadows now filled with wildflowers. The campground features 30 single-family sites, each equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Back-in spurs accommodate trailers up to 40 feet. Three sites are ADA-accessible, and accessible vault toilets are provided throughout. Potable water is available on site, and a bear-resistant dumpster handles trash disposal. Firewood bundles are sold for $7. A campground host is present during the season. Recreation opportunities include hiking, backpacking, and fishing. Wild Bill Lake, located nearby, offers kayaking and canoeing with an accessible fishing dock on shore. Wildlife commonly seen includes black bear, moose, whitetail deer, and mule deer.
