About
Greenough Lake Campground sits along the Main Fork of Rock Creek in the Custer Gallatin National Forest, 12 miles south of Red Lodge, Montana. The campground offers 18 single-family sites, including two accessible sites, nestled among aspen and pine trees in the shadow of the rugged Beartooth Range. Just a quarter-mile away, Greenough Lake provides opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing for rainbow trout, while Rock Creek itself is a popular fishing stream.
The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Beartooth Wilderness, with the Hellroaring and Lake Fork trailheads nearby. The Parkside National Recreation Trail offers mountain biking and hiking, while Hellroaring Road is open to off-road vehicles. Located just off the famous Beartooth Highway, which Charles Kuralt called "the most beautiful drive in America," the campground is ideally positioned for scenic drives and outdoor recreation.
Each campsite includes a picnic table and campfire ring. The campground provides vault toilets and hand-pumped drinking water. Firewood is available for purchase from the campground host. Grizzly bears are active in the area, and all food must be stored in approved containers, locked vehicles, or provided food storage lockers. Yellowstone National Park's northeast entrance is 55 miles away via the Beartooth Highway.
