About
Parkside Campground is located along the banks of the Main Fork of Rock Creek in the shadow of the Beartooth Range, 12 miles south of Red Lodge, Montana. The campground sits at approximately 8,000 feet elevation in a forest of aspen and pine, offering 28 sites that can accommodate RVs up to 32 feet.
The location provides excellent access to outdoor recreation. Greenough Lake, less than a mile away, offers rainbow trout fishing and is open to canoeing and kayaking. Rock Creek also provides quality trout fishing. The Beartooth Wilderness can be accessed via the nearby Hellroaring and Lake Fork Trailheads, while the Parkside National Recreation Trail is popular for mountain biking and hiking. Hellroaring Road is open to off-road vehicles.
The campground is situated just below the switchbacks of the Beartooth Scenic Highway, dubbed "the most beautiful drive in America" by Charles Kuralt. Red Lodge offers dining, lodging, shops, and summer events, while Yellowstone National Park's Northeast Entrance is 55 miles away via the Beartooth Highway. Wildlife including grizzly bears, deer, and elk inhabit the surrounding area.
Directions
From Red Lodge, drive south on US Highway 212 towards Cooke City for 10.7 miles. Turn right on Main Fork Road (Forest Road 2421). Drive 0.4 miles to the campground entrance.
