Parkside Campground is nestled along the banks of the Main Fork of Rock Creek in the Custer Gallatin National Forest, positioned at the base of the famous Beartooth Highway switchbacks. Located 12 miles south of Red Lodge, Montana, this creekside campground serves as an excellent basecamp for exploring one of America's most scenic mountain drives and the surrounding Beartooth Mountains. The campground features 28 sites split between upper and lower loops, with a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served options. Two group sites accommodate larger gatherings: Group Site A holds up to 50 people with 2 RVs, while Group Site B accommodates 25 people. Three sites are ADA accessible. Amenities during the operating season include accessible vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, and fire rings. Maximum trailer length is 55 feet. Recreation opportunities abound, with fishing in Rock Creek, hiking and mountain biking on the Parkside National Recreation Trail, and Greenough Lake less than a mile away. The Hellroaring and Lake Fork Trailheads provide access to backcountry adventures, while Yellowstone National Park's Northeast Entrance is 55 miles via the Beartooth Highway.

Directions

From the Beartooth Ranger District office in Red Lodge, drive south on US Highway 212 towards Cooke City for 10.7 miles. Turn right onto Main Fork Road (Forest Road 2421) and drive 0.4 miles to the campground entrance.
