About
Mount Rose Campground is situated high on the western slope of Mount Rose at 9,300 feet elevation, offering stunning views of Lake Tahoe just nine miles to the west. The campground is nestled in a scenic forest of lodgepole pine, Jeffrey pine, white pine, and red fir, providing pleasant shade throughout most sites. Its location along the Mount Rose Highway makes it an ideal base camp for exploring the Lake Tahoe region. The campground's primary draw is its proximity to excellent hiking opportunities. The Tahoe Rim Trail, Mount Rose Summit Trail, Mount Rose Wilderness Trail, and Tahoe Meadows Trail all begin near the campground, offering everything from casual day hikes to challenging alpine adventures. The area is also popular for mountain biking and road cycling. Lake Tahoe, less than 30 minutes away, provides additional recreation including boating, kayaking, fishing, swimming, and scenic driving. The campground features both single and double-family sites, plus one triple-family site, all with paved access roads and parking spurs. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets and potable water from hand pumps are available. Due to its high elevation, the campground operates seasonally with dates varying based on snow conditions.
