Spooner Lake Cabins

Closed — Closed for the season. Cabins operate from May 1 through October 15 annually. The park itself remains open year-round from sunrise to sunset.

About

Located in the Spooner Backcountry of Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, these two hand-hewn cabins offer rustic accommodations within a 12,000-acre non-motorized wilderness area. The Spooner Lake Cabin, located just north of Spooner Lake, comfortably sleeps four people, while the more remote Wildcat Cabin, situated approximately 2.5 miles up North Canyon, accommodates two guests. Both cabins provide basic amenities including composting toilets, beds, cook stoves, and wood burning stoves, but visitors must pack in all other necessities including sleeping bags, food, and cooking utensils. The cabins serve as a base for exploring the park's extensive trail system, including the Marlette, Red House, Flume, and Tahoe Rim Trails. The area features diverse terrain ranging from Spooner Lake's aspen-surrounded shores to high alpine peaks, with opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and fishing. The backcountry is managed as a non-motorized area to preserve its ecological and recreational values, offering a true wilderness experience within the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Directions
