Spooner Lake Cabins
Closed — Closed for the season. Cabins operate from May 1 through October 15 annually. The park itself remains open year-round from sunrise to sunset.

* WHAT...Snow. Snow accumulations of 10 to 18 inches above 7000 feet. At Lake Tahoe level, 3 to 6 inches, with 6 to 12 inches along and west of Highway 89. Wind gusts up to 35 mph, with gusts reaching 75 mph along the Sierra crest. Wave heights 1 to 3 feet on Lake Tahoe. * WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area. * WHEN...From 10 PM Monday to 4 PM PST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes, as well as the Wednesday morning commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

Located in the Spooner Backcountry of Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, these two hand-hewn cabins offer rustic accommodations within a 12,000-acre non-motorized wilderness area. The Spooner Lake Cabin, located just north of Spooner Lake, comfortably sleeps four people, while the more remote Wildcat Cabin, situated approximately 2.5 miles up North Canyon, accommodates two guests. Both cabins provide basic amenities including composting toilets, beds, cook stoves, and wood burning stoves, but visitors must pack in all other necessities including sleeping bags, food, and cooking utensils. The cabins serve as a base for exploring the park's extensive trail system, including the Marlette, Red House, Flume, and Tahoe Rim Trails. The area features diverse terrain ranging from Spooner Lake's aspen-surrounded shores to high alpine peaks, with opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and fishing. The backcountry is managed as a non-motorized area to preserve its ecological and recreational values, offering a true wilderness experience within the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Directions
Located at Spooner Summit near the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 28, about 12 miles north of South Lake Tahoe. Park entrance is on Highway 28 just north of the Highway 50 junction.
