About
Aspen Grove Campground sits at 5,100 feet elevation in the Eagle Lake Recreation Area of Lassen National Forest, where the Sierra Nevada meets the Cascade Range. The 28 tent-only sites are set among pines and firs, with a strip of aspens separating the camp from Eagle Lake's shoreline. Sites 1-10 are first-come, first-served walk-in sites, while sites 11-28 are reservable through Recreation.gov. Eagle Lake spans 22,000 acres and is famous for the Eagle Lake Rainbow Trout, a California Heritage Trout species. The lake accommodates swimming, kayaking, waterskiing, and motorboating with no two-cycle engine restrictions. The campground is immediately adjacent to the designated swim area at Gallatin Beach Day Use Area. A 5.2-mile paved trail connects all five Eagle Lake campgrounds, three day-use areas, and the marina. The marina, about a 10-minute walk from camp, offers a store with gas, propane, supplies, showers, and laundry facilities. Firewood is available for purchase at the campground.
Directions
From Susanville, California, take Highway 36 west for 2 miles to County Road A-1. Turn north and continue 14 miles to the Eagle Lake Recreation Area. Turn right on Gallatin Road, the first highway you will come to in the lake basin, and follow the signs towards the marina and Aspen Campground.
