The National Weather Service in Flagstaff AZ has issued a Red Flag Warning due to strong winds and low relative humidity in effect from 10 AM MST /11 AM MDT/ Monday to 8 PM MST /9 PM MDT/ Tuesday. * WHAT...For the first Red Flag Warning, southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts 30 to 40 mph, Relative Humidity between 11 to 18 percent, and for the second Red Flag Warning, southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts 30 to 45 mph, Relative Humidity between 6 to 15 percent. Winds will decrease to 5 to 15 mph for a period Monday night before increasing again Tuesday morning. * WHERE...Kaibab Plateau, Marble and Glen Canyons, Grand Canyon Country, Coconino Plateau, Navajo Nation in Arizona, Little Colorado River Valley, and the Mogollon Rim. Kachina Village and Pumphouse Wash Camping and Campfire Restrictions

Year-round camping and campfire restrictions are in effect for the Kachina Village and Pumphouse Wash area south of Flagstaff, between State Route 89A and Interstate 17, except within designated camping areas on Forest Road 237.

About

Located on the Mogollon Rim approximately 40 miles southwest of Winslow and 70 miles southeast of Flagstaff, Moqui Group Campground provides an ideal setting for large gatherings in the Coconino National Forest. The three group sites (Simmons, Spooner, Ernst) each accommodate up to 50 people, with Simmons and Ernst combinable for groups up to 100. The campground features vault toilets, potable water, garbage service, picnic tables, ground grills, large pedestal BBQ grills, horseshoe courts, and an amphitheater. Simmons and Spooner pods accommodate RVs and trailers up to 22 feet, while Ernst is best suited for tents, pop-up campers, and camper vans. No utility hookups or dump station available. Nearby recreation includes C.C. Cragin Reservoir and Knoll Lake for water activities, plus the Arizona National Scenic Trail, General Crook National Recreation Trail, and Cabin Loop Trail System for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The community of Happy Jack offers gas, convenience stores, and restaurants.

Directions

From Flagstaff, drive 55 miles south on Lake Mary Road (FH 3) to AZ 87 at Clints Well. Turn left onto AZ 87 and drive approximately 9 miles to milepost 298.8. Turn right on FR 138 and drive about one mile to the campground. From Payson, drive 46 miles north on AZ 87 toward Winslow, turn right onto FR 138 and drive about one mile to the campground.
