About

Kehl Springs Campground occupies a dramatic setting in a stand of ponderosa pines at the brink of the Mogollon Rim in Coconino National Forest. At 7,441 feet elevation, campers enjoy sweeping views across thousands of feet of vertical relief to Four Peaks, the Sierra Anchas, and the Mazatzal Mountains. At night, the lights of Payson twinkle from 2,000 feet below and 15 miles away. The campground offers a rustic experience with vault toilets and picnic tables but no potable water. Campers must bring their own water supply and pack out all trash. The historic General Crook Trail No. 130 passes directly through the area, providing opportunities for hiking and mountain biking. Nearby fishing and boating are also available. Access is via Lake Mary Road south from Flagstaff to Clints Well, then southwest on State Route 87 to Forest Road 300. The campground operates first-come, first-served with a 14-day stay limit. Pets are welcome but must remain leashed at all times.
