About

Yellowjacket Lake Campground is a remote, primitive campground situated at 8,000 feet elevation on the shores of Yellowjacket Lake in Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest. The campground sits near the border of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, the largest contiguous wilderness area in the lower 48 states. Sugarloaf Rock provides a stunning geological backdrop to the alpine lake setting. The campground offers 7 first-come, first-served campsites with no developed amenities. There are no restrooms or potable water available; campers must bring all water and pack out all waste. Carry-down access is available for non-motorized boats on the lake. Fishing is available both in Yellowjacket Lake and in nearby Yellowjacket Creek. Trails from the campground lead throughout the Yellowjacket Mountains and into the wilderness. Popular nearby destinations include Hoodoo Meadows, McEleny Peak, and Yellowjacket Creek. The access road (FR 113) is narrow with few turnouts and is not suitable for long RVs or vehicles towing trailers; travel is slow, passing is difficult, and backing may be necessary.
