About

Bighorn Crags Campground sits at high elevation near the main trailhead for the Bighorn Crags, one of the most spectacular regions of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The campground offers 14 campsites equipped with picnic tables and fire grates, providing a comfortable base camp before venturing into the wilderness. A separate area accommodates horse camping with corrals and water troughs for stock animals. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rugged granite mountains, numerous alpine lakes, and fascinating hoodoo formations. Trails from the campground wind through this highly popular wilderness area, offering access to pristine backcountry lakes and dramatic geologic features. This is a destination for experienced backcountry enthusiasts seeking solitude and alpine adventure. The access road is rough and steep, traversing remote forest roads not recommended for RVs or vehicles with trailers. The journey from North Fork requires approximately 74 miles on dirt forest roads, making this one of the more remote developed campgrounds in the Salmon-Challis National Forest. Services are over 40 miles away in Challis. Pack out all trash as there is no garbage collection on site.

Directions
