About

Yellow Creek State Park encompasses 2,981 acres in Indiana County along one of Pennsylvania's historic trails, the Kittanning Path. The park centers around the 720-acre Yellow Creek Lake, named for the yellow clay found in the banks and bottoms of Yellow and Little Yellow creeks that flow into it. Overnight accommodations include six camping cottages and four yurts located at McFeaters Cove near the lakeshore. Each cottage is 13 by 15 feet with wooden floors, windows, a porch, and sleeps five people in bunk beds. The cottages have electric lights and outlets with nearby restrooms. The yurts are round, canvas and wood-walled structures with wooden floors and decks. They include cooking stoves, refrigerators, microwave ovens, countertops, tables, chairs, electric heat and outlets, plus fire rings and picnic tables. Select cottages and one yurt permit dogs for a fee. The park does not offer traditional tent or RV campsites. The park features a sand beach with seasonal boat and equipment rentals, multiple boat launches around the lake, fishing opportunities, and mountain bike trails with easy to moderate terrain that loop around the park. The area serves as an important stopover for migrating birds. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance and must be made at least three days ahead. The park itself is open year-round from sunrise to sunset.
