Trout Creek Campground is a remote, dispersed camping area situated approximately 14 miles northwest of Yampa, Colorado, within the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. The campground is located along Trout Creek at an elevation of approximately 6,700 feet and is accessed via Forest Road 925, also known as Rio Blanco CR 90. This primitive camping area offers 4 dispersed sites along a dirt road, providing a quiet and lightly-used camping experience. The campground is free to use and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations available. A single vault toilet is provided for campers, but there is no potable water, trash service, or other facilities. Campers must be self-sufficient, bringing their own water and packing out all trash. The area is popular for stream fishing along Trout Creek. The campground includes a pull-through area that allows those with trailers to turn around. Due to its location and elevation, the campground is open seasonally and closes during winter months due to snow and road conditions. The Yampa Ranger District manages the area and can provide information about current fire restrictions and road conditions.

Directions

From Yampa, travel northwest on County Road 17 for approximately 5 miles to County Road 132. Turn left and continue about 4 miles to Forest Road 925 (also known as RCR 132A and Rio Blanco CR 90). Follow FDR 925 northwest for approximately 5 miles to Trout Creek Campground.
