About

Vaughan Lake Campground is a small, scenic campground situated at 9,500 feet elevation in the Dunckley Pass area of the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. Located between Yampa and Meeker along the Flat Tops Trail Scenic and Historic Byway, this campground offers 6 sites in a fairly open setting with aspen trees and excellent views of Vaughan Lake. Each campsite is equipped with a fire grate, tent pad, and picnic table. The campground features vault toilets including an accessible option, and trash collection is provided. Campers must bring their own water as no potable water is available on-site. The campground can accommodate trailers up to 18 feet with a maximum spur length of 22 feet. Vaughan Lake allows only non-motorized boats. While the lake is not stocked and has limited fishing success, nearby Chapman Reservoir and Sheriff Reservoir offer better fishing opportunities. The campground is popular with hunters during big game season and provides access to area trailheads for hiking along the scenic byway. Dogs must remain on leash at all times in the campsite.

Directions

From Yampa, go 5 miles west on County Road 17 following signs towards Dunckley Pass, continue 26 miles west on County Road 132 which turns into County Road 8. The campground is located on the left side of the road.
