About

Wounded Buck Dispersed East is a dispersed camping area located in the Flathead National Forest in northwest Montana, positioned near the historic Wounded Buck Creek area. As a dispersed site, this area offers free primitive camping in a remote mountain setting without any developed amenities or services. Campers must be completely self-sufficient, bringing their own water, packing out all trash, and following food storage orders to prevent bear conflicts in this grizzly bear habitat. The area is accessible via forest roads, though road conditions and accessibility vary seasonally depending on weather and snow levels. Dispersed camping is not permitted within 200 feet of water sources or near any developed recreation facilities. Visitors must adhere to the 16-day maximum stay limit and the forest's food and wildlife attractant storage order. The area provides opportunities for solitude and primitive camping experiences in the Rocky Mountains, with the potential for wildlife viewing, fishing, and hiking. Winter access may be limited or impossible depending on snow conditions. Campers should use existing fire rings when available and ensure all fires are completely extinguished.
