About

Wounded Buck Creek Dispersed Camp is a free primitive camping area located in the Flathead National Forest, just outside the western boundary of Glacier National Park. Accessed via West Side Fork Road and Wounded Buck Road off the Hungry Horse Reservoir area, this dispersed camping location offers approximately 1-5 primitive campsites, including some positioned near the water's edge along Wounded Buck Creek. The area is reached by gravel forest roads and is best suited for smaller camping vehicles, with a maximum RV length of 15 feet due to road conditions and site access. As with all dispersed camping in Flathead National Forest, no facilities are provided—campers must be completely self-sufficient, pack out all trash, and follow food storage orders due to bear activity in the area. The location provides a quiet, primitive camping experience with proximity to both Hungry Horse Reservoir recreation and Glacier National Park attractions. Campers should be prepared for challenging winter access, as forest roads may become impassable due to snow. The standard 16-day maximum stay limit applies to this dispersed area. Motorized use is restricted to designated forest roads shown on the Motor Vehicle Use Map, and campers must observe all seasonal closures and never camp in front of closed gates.

Directions

From Martin City, Montana, head south on West Side Reservoir Road (Forest Road 895) for approximately 0.1 miles. Look for a short gravel road entrance on the south side of Wounded Buck Creek leading to the dispersed camping area.
