About

Wood-Tikchik State Park encompasses nearly 1.6 million acres of roadless wilderness in southwest Alaska, north of Dillingham. The park features two separate lake systems connected by the Wood River, offering world-class fishing for rainbow trout, arctic char, grayling, and all five species of Pacific salmon. Access is exclusively by floatplane, boat, or foot, with air charter services available from Dillingham. Camping is primitive throughout the park with a strong emphasis on low-impact practices. The Agulukpak River Campground, located on the south side of Lake Beverly, offers one of the few developed facilities with picnic tables and an outhouse, though stays are limited to three nights. Elsewhere, campers can stay up to 10 consecutive days at any undeveloped location before relocating at least one mile. Permits ($350) are required for camping at Nishlik, Slate, Upnuk, or Chikuminuk Lakes, floating the Tikchik River, and for groups over 20 people. Reservations are available through Reserve America up to seven months in advance. The park operates on pack-it-in, pack-it-out principles with no potable water, trash service, or developed facilities outside the Agulukpak Campground.
