About

Priest Rock Cabin provides a remote backcountry experience on the north shore of Lake Clark in Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. Built by Allen Woodward in the mid-1970s and opened as a public use cabin in July 2017, this rustic log cabin sits perched above a small creek approximately eight miles north of Port Alsworth, commanding sublime views of the upper reaches of Lake Clark backed by mountains soaring to 6,000 feet. The cabin accommodates up to six people with sleeping arrangements including three single beds and one queen bed on wooden bunks. Amenities include a wood stove for heating, table and chairs, fire extinguisher, smoke detectors, and a nearby outhouse. There is no electricity or running water; fresh water must be treated from the lake. The location is ideal for kayaking, boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing, though bears frequent the area and all food must be secured inside the cabin. Accessible only by floatplane, water taxi, or private vessel, this cabin offers true wilderness solitude 120 air miles from Anchorage. There are no maintained trails, no cell phone coverage, and no mooring buoys. Visitors must pack out all trash as neither the cabin nor Port Alsworth offer waste services. Maximum stay is five consecutive nights with a limit of 21 nights per calendar year. Advanced kayakers can reach the cabin from Port Alsworth, making it a destination for experienced outdoor enthusiasts seeking an authentic Alaska backcountry experience.
