About
The Priest Rock Cabin sits on the north shore of Lake Clark, approximately eight miles north of Port Alsworth in Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. Built by Allen Woodward in the mid-1970s as a personal wilderness home, this historic log cabin was opened to the public by the National Park Service in July 2017 as the park's first public use cabin. Perched above a small creek that flows into the lake, the cabin commands sublime views of Lake Clark's upper reaches, backed by mountains soaring to 6,000 feet.
The cabin is rustic and accommodates up to six people on wooden bunks, including three single beds and one queen bed. Amenities include a wood stove for heat, a table and chairs, a fire extinguisher, and smoke detectors. An outhouse is located nearby. There is no electricity, running water, or cell phone coverage. Fresh water must be obtained from the lake and treated before use. Visitors must bring their own cook stove, lighter, utensils, sleeping pads, bedding, toilet paper, and water treatment supplies.
Accessible only by floatplane, water taxi, or private boat from Port Alsworth, the cabin offers an authentic wilderness experience in one of Alaska's most remote national parks. The location is ideal for kayaking, boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Bears frequent the area, so all food, garbage, and scented items must be secured inside the cabin at all times. There is no trash service, so all waste must be packed out. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov with a maximum stay of 5 consecutive nights and 21 total nights per calendar year.
